TWRP Recovery Setup on Xiaomi Devices – Simple and General Method

Brief Details and Advantage of TWRP Recovery

TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) is an open source community development project. With TWRP you can grant root access to your device, upload various custom roms and mod files. You can also get backups like EFS, Nandroid, Full Backup in TWRP and then restore.

Requirements :

• Your device must have Bootloader unlocked.
• Your Xiaomi Device must have USB Drivers installed on the PC (Qualcomm Drivers or MTK Driver Auto Installer Download USB Drivers.)

Steps to Unlock Bootloader (Bootloader) of your Xiaomi Device

Note:  If you have already unlocked the bootloader, skip these steps.

Step 1: Sign in with your Mi account registered on your Xiaomi phone. If you do not have an account, first of all a new one mi account create. Then, as it will delete all data from the smartphone after unlocking, make sure to take a full backup of your phone.

Steps to Install TWRP on Xiaomi Phones

Step 1: Primarily ADB and Fastboot let's download the tool and install it on our computer.

Step 2:  Make sure the drivers are installed on your computer. Then, proceed to the next step. If Mi flash or Mi Unlock tools are installed on your computer, your drivers are already automatically installed.

Note:  If the Developer Settings and USB Debugging settings are already enabled on your device as recommended in the Bootloader unpacking section, skip Step 3 and Step 4’ and follow Step 5’ directly.

Step 3: Now enable developer options, go to Settings > About Phone > and ‘ You are now developer ’ until you write Tap MIUI at least 7-8 times.

Step 4: Settings > Additional Settings > Developer OptionsGo to ’ . Scroll down and USB Debugging Enable.

Step 5:  Now open the Minimal Adb and Fastboot tool that we installed on our computer. Connect your phone to your computer via USB. You can use the code below to put the device in fastboot mode, or you can enter fastboot mode by holding down the volume + power key.

Step 6: Your device must have entered fastboot mode. You have downloaded it from our site now TWRP.img file C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot copy to folder. Rename the file to ‘twrp.img’, and then enter the following command:

What is vbmeta?
Android Approved Boot: Android 8.0 and later versions used a Verified Boot reference Verified Boot called Android Verified Boot (AVB) or Verified Boot 2.0. Therefore, for some tasks you need vbmeta.img (mostly to disable the verified boot). In some cases, TWRP will not load if Verified Boot is on.

7. Step: (Important) : Some devices may not automatically change the custom recovery during the initial boot. You can search Google ⁇ key combinations to enter your device into recovery mode.After running the ‘fastboot restart’ command, hold down the appropriate key combination to enter the device into TWRP Mode. When the device switches to TWRP mode, TWRP will automatically patch the stock ROM to avoid any chance of replacing the TWRP with Stock Recovery.
